Embracing Seasonality and Rejecting Toxic White Supremacist Hustle & Grind Culture
As the leaves fall and the days grow shorter, a sense of calm and introspection envelops Me. Winter is a time for hibernation, for turning inward, & for embracing the natural ebb & flow of our energy.
This season, I’m excited to announce a new creative endeavor: a podcast series born from My winter hibernation & sabbatical after my last overseas tour for a while.
The first episode, I explore themes of seasonality, rejecting the toxic white supremacist hustle & grind culture that pervades our society.
Understanding Seasonality
Seasonality refers to the natural cycles that influence our lives, from the changing seasons of the year to the rhythms of our own bodies & minds. Just as nature moves through periods of growth, harvest, decay, & rest, so too do we. Embracing seasonality means recognising & honoring these cycles within ourselves. It’s about understanding that winter, with its slower pace & longer nights, is a time for rest and reflection.
The Toxicity of Hustle & Grind Culture
In contrast to the gentle rhythms of seasonality, the hustle & grind culture demands constant productivity, glorifying relentless work; equating busyness with ‘success’. This mindset is deeply rooted in white supremacist ideals, which prioritise productivity & economic output over well-being & human connection. It dismisses the natural need for rest & ignores the diverse ways people thrive outside of constant work.
Hustle culture tells us that we must always be doing more, that our worth is tied to our output. It perpetuates a harmful cycle of burnout & stress, disproportionately affecting marginalised communities who are already navigating systemic inequalities. By glorifying overwork, it devalues the essential practices of rest, self-care, & community connection.
The Intersection of Hustle Culture & White Supremacy
White supremacist culture has historically dictated societal norms, including the valorisation of hard work & individualism at the expense of the collective well-being. This framework marginalises those who don’t conform to its rigid expectations & ignores the communal & wholistic approaches to life found in many cultures.
The hustle & grind mentality is an extension of these supremacist values. It promotes a narrow definition of success & overlooks the systemic barriers that prevent many people from achieving it. By rejecting this mindset, we challenge the very foundations of white supremacist culture & advocate for a more inclusive, compassionate society.
My Winter Podcast: A Journey of Reflection and Resistance
In my upcoming podcast series, I’ll be delving into these themes (& others), drawing on personal experiences, & cultural analysis.
Each episode will explore different aspects of life, & ways to reclaim our time & energy. We’ll discuss practical strategies for embracing rest, fostering community, & redefining success on our own terms. I’m not sure what else. I don’t have a schedule. I’ll chat about what I’m currently musing about. I am open to questions from you, the community & any kink, sex worker or whatever I’m thinking about sharing really!
Winter is the perfect time for this exploration for Me. As nature slows down, we too can take a step back, reassess our priorities, & cultivate a deeper connection with ourselves & our communities. This podcast is an invitation to join Me on this journey of reflection & My journey of resistance to systemic barriers.
Embracing Rest as a Form of Resistance
Rest is a radical act in a culture that values constant productivity. By embracing seasonality and prioritising rest, we resist the pressures of hustle culture & affirm our right to a balanced, fulfilling life. This winter, let’s challenge the toxic narratives that equate worth with work & instead, honor the natural rhythms that guide us.
